URGENT UPDATE ON FIREARMS TRAINING

MASSACHUSETTS RECENTLY PASSED SIGNIFICANT GUN LAWS THAT HAVE CREATED MAJOR UPDATES TO THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS. BEGINNING AUGUST 1, 2024, ALL APPLICANTS WHO WISH TO OBTAIN THEIR LICENSE TO CARRY (LTC) IN MASSACHUSETTS MUST NOW COMPLETE MANDATORY LIVE-FIRE TRAINING, AS WELL AS: INJURY AND SUICIDE PREVENTION, APPLICABLE LAWS RELATING TO THE USE OF FORCE, DISENGAGEMENT TACTICS, ALONG WITH THE SAFE USE, HANDLING AND STORAGE OF FIREARMS.

The new law for firearms training requirements will not become effective for 18 months from the date of the new firearms Act . *

You may continue to take the current NRA Home Firearms Safety Course (LTC-007) or the NRA Basic Pistol Class (LTC-002) and apply to obtain your LTC.

*However, individuals who apply for an FID or LTC after August 1, 2024, but before the Act becomes effective, may be issued an FID or LTC if the applicant is eligible under current law. Individuals issued an FID or LTC during this period (August 1, 2024 - effective date of the Act) will be subject to the new requirements when they seek to renew their FID or LTC.  

Salem Firearm Safety offers two courses that qualify you to obtain you License To Carry (LTC) in Massachusetts;  The Basic Pistol Course (LTC-002) and the Home Firearms Safety Course (LTC-007).  Classes are limited to 5 students offering more personalized attention and training.  We also offer advanced training as well as Skeet and Trap shooting lessons.

Both classes that allow you to obtain your LTC will also qualify you to obtain your Firearms Identification Card (FID).  If you are under 21 years of age and wish to obtain your FID card, you may take any of the courses listed below. 

All Safety Classes cover the Massachusetts Laws for Licensing, Transportation and Storage of Firearms per Mass General Laws.

NRA Basic Pistol Safety Class (LTC-002)

  • This course includes 4 hours classroom and 2 hours of live-fire training.

  • It covers The Rules for Safe Gun Handling and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting.

  • This course qualifies you to apply for your License to Carry in Mass. and other states if applying for your non-resident LTC.

  • Students will receive their Massachusetts Basic Firearms Safety Certificate upon completion of this course.

  • Firearms and ammunition will be provided.

  • $250 per student. (plus $10 range fee)

nra home firearms safety course (ltc-007)

  • This course is 4 hours and covers The Rules for Safe Gun Handling and how to safely unload most firearms.

  • This is not a live-fire course.

  • This course qualifies you to apply for your LTC in Mass.

  • Students will receive their Massachusetts Basic Firearms Safety Certificate upon completion of this course.

  • $125 per student.

NRA Basic Rifle Class (FID-001)

  • This class offers individuals instruction regarding rifles and shotguns only.

  • This class is designed for those persons under between the ages of 15 and 21 or anyone who wish to obtain their FID license only.

  • $100 per student by appointment. (Plus $10 range fee)

Concealed carry and home defense

  • This class covers the Fundamentals of Concealed Carry and Home Defense as well as the Use of Deadly Force.

  • Upcoming Dates to be announced. Includes live-fire advanced training.

  • $200 per student (plus $10 range fee)
